the journey ahead

For my fourth montage, I portrayed the theme of having a long journey ahead in life. I used a serene background of a beach to represent the calm, and relaxed side of life. To contrast with this, I added in an opaque background of a cluttered forest, which represents a stressful and complicated future. I then went and placed an image of someone looking out to both of these "directions" in life and making it look like she's depicting which way to chose, through the use of the path. With color in this image, I wanted to make the girl stand out more to show her importance in the photo, giving the story of her new journey in life and the choices she must make, whether good or bad. As for the backgrounds, I made them opaque to give the future aspect of the theme an unclear feeling.

technology overload

With this montage, I wanted to bring in the theme of our world becoming dependent on technology, instead of books and text. To portray this, I photographed the main scene of the books to bring a dominant feeling of the importance of books. The faint images of the computer, computer mouse, and cell phone all mock the literature in the background, giving a feeling that the technology is "taking over." I chose to incorporate the dictionary terms of "technology" and "information" not only to add emphasis to the picture itself, but to the meaning as well. The strong colors of the books gives the montage a strong belief in the literature system and its importance to the world for learning.

Montage 2

With this second montage, I again brought back the idea of finding something important show up in the most unimaginable places. For this piece, I chose to portray the idea that new life can "sprout up" in any type of situation. With this idea, I decided to photograph a background where it seemed no new life could grow from. With the addition of the budding plant, I believe I depicted life being created in an unimaginable place. Color in this image is similar to that of Montage one, where I placed emphasis on the very green bud. The rest of the image and background give that feeling of infertility in the land.

Montage One

In this montage, I chose to depict "finding love anywhere." I believe my rendition of using simply a symbol of one leaf shaped like a heart describes this theme perfectly. Being that there is only one leaf, it expresses the randomness of finding love during life. Also, the background scene I photographed looks glomy and desolate to add power to the leaf. The meaning of this contrast in beauty and blan gives an even stronger meaning to the power of finding love in even unimaginable places. With the color in this montage, the background and tree create that gloomy tone. This adds emphasis to the leaf, which has a pop of color, to again express the theme I portrayed.
